The company’s product lead has announced that X is rolling out a new feature called “Starterpacks” to all users in the coming weeks. It is made up of a collection of accounts that new users can follow based on their interests. If this sounds familiar, that’s because Bluesky launched a very similar feature in 2024 also called the “Starter Pack.” Bluesky allows normal users to curate their own packs as long as there are no more than 50 accounts each. They can then share those listings broadly with new users on the platform or directly through QR codes. X, on the other hand, compiled and curated its own lists.
In its announcement, Then X compiled them into StarterPacks “to help new users find the best accounts for their interests, big or small.” Before X made its own announcement on this feature, other social media services had already launched their own clones of Bluesky’s tool. The version of Threads, which debuted in late 2024, puts a collection of recommended profiles as suggestions in new users’ feeds. Mastodon launched its own in 2025, giving existing users the freedom to choose whether they can be included in the lists.
