A storm system moving up from the Gulf Coast is bringing cold, soaking rain, with freezing rain in some places causing icy patches on roads.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for freezing rain starting at 7 p.m. Monday and continuing through 10 a.m. Tuesday.

This advisory includes Avery, Buncombe, Henderson, Mitchell and Yancey counties, as well as Burke, McDowell, Polk and Rutherford Mountains. People in the advisory area should limit travel due to black ice.
People who have to be out on the roads are advised to slow down their speed and take extra time to reach their destination.

By midnight, higher elevation areas, including some outer areas, may be under a Winter Weather Advisory.
Temperatures are expected to rise slightly during the night, with most places remaining above zero by 7 am on Tuesday.
