Winter storm triggers early school closures throughout St. Louis

Several school districts across the region have announced they will close their doors early Monday ahead of the expected several inches of snow.

Scheduled Tribe. LOUIS – School districts throughout St. Louis have begun announcing their intentions to close early Monday ahead of the coming winter storm.

According to the 5 On Your Side Weather Impact team, the coming snowfall will be very different from the storm that hit the area Saturday morning. This system is expected to bring snowfall to the area around noon and continue overnight. While most of Monday’s snow is expected to be light, there are some areas of more moderate snow, where most of the snow will accumulate.

Because the timing of the storm coincides with rush hour and school holidays, meteorologists at 5 On Your Side issued a weather impact warning for Monday afternoon through evening.

Several school districts told 5 On Your Side Monday morning that they have decided to cancel school early, which will allow children to return home early Monday afternoon. Districts facing early closures include:

  • Wentzville R-IV School District: 2 hours 15 minutes early dismissal
  • Francis Howell School District: closing 2 hours earlier
  • Fort Zumwalt R-2: closing 2.5 hours earlier
  • Northwest R-1: Close at 1 p.m.; Grades Pre K-5: 2 p.m.
  • City of St. Charles Schools: closing 2 hours earlier
  • Southwestern School District 9: Closing at 1 p.m.
  • Lincoln County/Troy R-3 School District: Click here for details
  • Gasconade County R-2 Schools: Will close at 11:30 a.m.
  • Strain-Japan R-16: Will close at 11:30 am
  • Gateway Legacy Christian Academy: Closing at 1 p.m.
  • Principia School – St. Louis: Closes at 1 p.m.
  • Marion Middle School: closing at noon
  • Festus R-6: Closes at 12:30 pm; K-5 1:30 pm
  • Loyola Academy: Closing at noon; no sporting events
  • Windsor C-1: Will close at noon
  • Spring Bluff R-XV: Closed at noon
  • Veritas Christian Academy – O’Fallon: Closes at 11:45am
  • Jersey CU School District 100: Closing at 1 p.m.
  • First Steps Preschool – Troy, Missouri: Closes at 3 p.m.
  • Jefferson County R-7: Closes at 1:30 p.m.
  • New Haven School District: Closing at noon
  • Wright City R-2: closing two hours earlier
  • Liberty Christian Academy – Wright City: Closes at 11:45am
  • First Kids Learning Center – St. Charles: Closes at 12:15 p.m.
  • Orchard Farm RV School District: closing 2 hours earlier
