what to expect

• Tuesday: Chance of rain, sometimes heavy
Winter-like conditions are here for any shopping or Christmas decorating planning!
Grab a winter coat before you head out the door!
Starting out in the teens and 20s, temperatures will gradually reach the 30s and then 40s for any afternoon plans. Highs will only manage into the mid to upper 40s in most locations.
Expect dry conditions with a mix of sun and clouds.
Throughout the night, temperatures remain above zero outside the mountains, but temperatures drop below zero in our highlands.
There will be rain on Sunday along with cold winds, which may lead to light snowfall in the mountains on Sunday morning.
As a result, a winter weather advisory has been put in place for Avery, Watauga and Ashe counties. Fortunately, any accumulations of freezing rain will generally be light and isolated.
For the rest of us, temperatures will warm to around 50 degrees and light, intermittent rain is possible during the day.
We will be in for drier and cooler weather as we start a new work and school week.
By Tuesday, the coverage and intensity of rain increases as another low pressure system moves overhead. Our mountain communities may see some more freezing rain during this time.
