AROW started updating in about a minute After takeoff on Wednesday, April 1And will continue to feed live information until Orion returns to Earth’s atmosphere at the end of the mission. Online, users can see where the spacecraft sits in space and trace its figure-of-eight route.

NASA has designed the website to show more than a single point on a map. It highlights and points out key moments of the mission Features on the MoonWhich also includes the landing sites of the Apollo program. This allows viewers to connect what they’re seeing today through Artemis – named after Apollo’s twin sister in Greek mythology – with the first era of human exploration on the moon’s surface.

The NASA app includes similar features, as well as an augmented reality tracker. After calibration, the app uses the phone sensors to tell you how to move your device so that the on-screen markers line up with Orion’s position relative to your position on Earth.

Since launch, the crew has been in high-Earth orbit, giving them time to check systems on the spacecraft before moving into a Moon-bound trajectory.

Artemis II is NASA’s first crewed mission in the Artemis campaign and is a big step toward learning how to land on the Moon and live there. By sending astronauts around the Moon and bringing them home safely, NASA is attempting to prove out the systems needed for a future lunar landing — and, perhaps, the first human mission to Mars.
