It always occurs on the fourth Friday of November (and the day after Thanksgiving), which falls quite late in the month in 2025. For consumers, this means two things: There’s less time than usual for last-minute Christmas shopping, but there are more discounts than usual to snag Black Friday deals in advance. Plan accordingly.
Here are the details you need to know about Black Friday sales at major retailers and strategies for scoring the best deals this season.
When is Black Friday 2025?
With Thanksgiving scheduled for Thursday, November 27, Black Friday is also taking place Friday, November 28 This year.
That being said, most major retailers have started offering “Early Black Friday Deals” well ahead of time (ie, weeks in advance). Some people will drag things out even longer with Black Friday discounts that end the following weekend. In practice, Black Friday is not limited to a strict 24-hour time frame.
Amazon Prime Day vs. Black Friday: When are the deals better?
The same goes for Cyber Monday, a similar but more online-focused shopping holiday that takes place the same weekend. (It’s scheduled for Monday, December 1 in 2025.) Most retailers will shift into Cyber Monday mode by the Saturday after Black Friday. The lines between the two deal-shopping holidays have become permanently blurred. The entire weekend celebration is commonly referred to as “Cyber Weekend”.
Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and Target have already got Black Friday sales this year. Here’s what their schedule will look like in 2025.
Black Friday at Best Buy
Things started getting spooky at Best Buy earlier this year, with an initial batch of holiday deals — called DoorBoosters — released on Halloween. The electronics retailer will be launching new Doorbusters on select Tech every Friday throughout the holiday season.
The main event, aka Best Buy’s official Black Friday sale, will run from Thursday, November 20 to Friday, November 29 in stores and online. The calendar flips to Cyber Sunday and Monday on November 30, and Best Buy promises “up to 50% off select tech” as well as more limited-time deals during this event.
As all this is happening, Best Buy continues to launch limited-time deals and restocks in its mobile app as part of its Drops program during the holidays.

If you’re planning to get Best Buy’s Black Friday deals early, know that you’re covered by its Holiday Price Match Guarantee if what you buy there turns out to be cheaper later. Its extended leave return and exchange policy is also in effect; Most items purchased at Best Buy through December 31 can be returned through January 14, 2025.

Best Buy’s brick-and-mortar stores will be open from 6am to 10pm local time on Black Friday. If you’re hoping to get your hands on a high-demand item, feel free to camp like old times. Just note that Best Buy may use a ticketing system “for the safety of customers and employees.”

Walmart’s first Black Friday sale of the season started on November 14 (Walmart+ members got a five-hour head start), but things have cooled down since then. The retailer’s next planned holiday events will run online only from Tuesday, November 25 through Thursday, November 27, with the official Black Friday sale taking place in stores and online from Friday, November 28 through Sunday, November 30. There will be an online only Cyber Monday sale on December 1st. Walmart+ members will get early access to Black Friday deals starting at 7PM on Monday, November 24, and Cyber Monday deals starting at 7PM on Sunday, November 30.

According to a press release, Walmart’s Cyber Week events promise “big savings, thousands of deals under $20, up to 60% off exciting new brands and the fastest, easiest holiday shopping experience ever.”
Those who haven’t signed up for Walmart+ yet can save 50% on an annual membership through December 2nd and get early access to the deals.
Walmart doesn’t offer any kind of holiday price match guarantee, but shoppers can return most items purchased there from December 31 through January 31, 2026, according to its extended holiday return policy.

Walmart stores will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. local time on Black Friday, the day its second Black Friday Deals event will be held in person. They will be closed on Thanksgiving.

This year, Target starts its holiday savings on November 6 with early deals on holiday decorations and toys. The official Black Friday shopping event begins on Sunday, November 23 and runs through Saturday, November 29, with top categories up to 50% off. More deals will be available from November 27th to November 29th especially for Black Friday. Target Circle 360 members will get early access to select deals. The savings season ends with Target’s Cyber Monday event from November 30 to December 1, which features online-only deals.
Target is expanding its in-store shopping experience more than ever with exclusive product launches and surprise giveaways. The first 100 shoppers at each store on Black Friday will receive a tote bag filled with holiday favorites. Meanwhile, 10 lucky shoppers per store will also win prizes ranging from $99 to $350.
