A powerful disturbance will impact the area on Saturday, with precipitation starting as snow or a rain/snow mix in the morning and turning to full rain by Saturday afternoon.Light snow accumulations are possible Saturday, especially in areas near Interstate 64 in southern Illinois, where a winter weather advisory has been issued. Isolated travel impacts are possible in the advisory area, with brief periods of heavy snowfall and some sleet possible.
Below normal temperatures will continue into early next week, before another system arrives that will bring additional chances of wintry weather to the area Monday night into Tuesday. Very early estimates show the possibility of an inch or more in western Kentucky by Tuesday.
Some sleet and/or freezing rain may be mixed in with the snow.
MAP: Sufficient rainfall is expected on Monday night to impact travel. (National Weather Service)
