Steph Curry will miss at least another week as he deals with a knee injury.
The team announced Friday that its superstar point guard, who had missed the past six games, would be reevaluated in 10 days due to his ongoing patellofemoral pain syndrome, or “runner’s knee,” prompting a somewhat surprised reaction from frustrated Warriors fans who suggested Curry sit for the rest of the season.
Steve Kerr was confused by the idea, and the Warriors coach shared his reaction on 95.7 The Game’s “Willard & Dibs” on Friday.
Kerr said, “Well, what are we protecting him for? Obviously, we’re not going to do anything stupid.” “We’re protecting him. But as soon as he’s healthy, he’ll play. That’s what it’s about. We’ve got a lot to play for. We’re right in the mix in the playoffs. It’s an injury that’s bothersome. It’s not like it’s something that’s going to hurt him next year if we take him out right now.
“It’s just injury management. As soon as he’s healthy and ready to go, he’ll be there.”
Curry spoke exclusively with NBC Sports Bay Area’s Dalton Johnson on Friday and shared an update on his health.
“Feels good,” Curry said. “I mean, it’s not going the way I wanted it to, but I think we’re on the right track to get back out there as quickly as possible.”
In 39 games this season, Curry is averaging 27.2 points on 46.8 percent shooting from the field and 39.1 percent from 3-point range, along with 3.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists.
“Obviously, I’d love to play right now,” Curry said. “If you’re healthy, you’re able to play. I’m going in the right direction, and hopefully it won’t be much longer.”
Curry and the Warriors don’t know when that will happen, but they are counting on his return this season.
No other option is under consideration.
