Warner Music Group partners with Suno to offer AI likenesses of its artists

Warner Music Group has signed a licensing deal with AI music creation platform Suno. Under the agreement, WMG will allow users to create AI-generated music on Suno using the voices, names, likeness, images and compositions of the artists joining the program.

WMG, which owns the record label that has signed musicians like Ed Sheeran, Twenty One Pilots, Dua Lipa and Charli XCX, says participating artists will have “complete control” over how their likeness and music is used, though it did not share how.

“These will be new creation experiences for the artists who join in, which will open up new revenue streams for them and allow you to interact with them in new ways,” says Suno, adding that users will be able to “build” content around an artist’s sound and ensure they are compensated.

With the licensing agreement, Listen plans to use music licensed from WMG to create a next-generation music generation model, which it claims will surpass its flagship V5 model. Starting next year, users will also begin requiring a paid account to download songs, with each tier providing a specific number of downloads per month.
