Wales v South Africa: Tom Rogers out as Tandy forced into 12 changes

Six players – full-back Blair Murray, fly-half Dan Edwards, scrum-half Kieran Hardie, hooker and captain Davy Lake, tight-head prop Kieron Asirati, back-row forward Alex Mann – will take part in their fourth Test of the autumn.

The loss of Rodgers and Bristol’s Lewis Rees-Zammit means Alice Mee, who was called into the squad on Monday, and Rio Dyer have been selected on the wings.

Center Joe Roberts and scrum-half Kieran Hardie came in place of Gloucester duo of Max Llewellyn and Tomos Williams.

Gareth Thomas gets his first start of the autumn at loose-head prop, while Ben Carter and Rhys Davies form a new partnership in the second row.

Ospreys lock James Fender missed the chance to win his first cap due to a shoulder injury.

Wainwright’s return means Alex Mann moves to open-side at the expense of Harry Daves and Tane Plumtree shifts to blind-side flanker.

Cardiff loose forward Danny Southworth is in line to make his Test debut from a bench that also includes his club-mate Callum Sheedy.

Ten players are set for their first action of the autumn – Mee, Roberts, Dyer, Carter and Davies in the XV and Southworth, with tight-head prop Chris Coleman, lock James Ratti, scrum-half Reuben Morgan-Williams and Sheedy on the bench.

Tandy said: “We want to see the same kind of effort and performance from the boys as we did last weekend.

“I think we showed a lot of attacking intent, a lot of toughness in the way we went defensively, so that gave the supporters something to shout about.”
