Head football coach Travis Turner has been reported missing, eclipsed by his Union High School team’s hopes for a winning, undefeated season in Virginia.
Turner, 46, was officially listed as missing on Friday after being last seen Thursday, according to Virginia State Police.
He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and glasses.

Amid the search, Wise County Public Schools said an unidentified staff member was placed on administrative leave with pay pending an internal investigation into the allegations.
Dr. Mike Goforth, superintendent of the Wise County Public Schools Division, said in a statement to Fox News Digital, “A staff member has been placed on administrative leave with pay while an outside agency reviews the allegation that was reported to the division. This is standard procedure and is not a determination of wrongdoing. This situation also involves an active law-enforcement case, and the division cannot comment further.”
According to WCYB-TV, state police said troopers went to Turner’s residence near Appalachia, Virginia. Thursday evening to respond to a non-criminal complaint, but when they arrived, he was not there.

In a since-deleted Facebook post, Turner’s wife, Leslie Turner, wrote that he was “missing and that’s all we know.”
Search efforts involving K-9 units, drones and ground crews have since been underway throughout Wise County.

Turner’s disappearance stunned the community and the Union High School Bears, who entered the postseason with an 11-0 record.
He has been the head football coach at the public high school in Big Stone Gap, Virginia since 2011.

No additional details have been released regarding the circumstances of her disappearance or the nature of the initial complaint. Authorities have not indicated whether foul play is suspected.
