Other former employees repeated this statement in online posts, with one video engineer saying that “almost everyone” at the company was fired, “including the entire video team.” Another software engineer says he was fired with “a huge amount of company money.”
Earlier this week, Israeli outlet ctec Vimeo was reported to be laying off “most” of its employees in the country. It marks the company’s second round of layoffs in less than six months, as it laid off 10 percent of its workforce in September — just a week before Bending Spoon announced its acquisition plans.
The layoffs raise concerns about how it could affect content hosted on the platform, such as comedy shows created by Dropout. The Verge Reached out to Vimeo and Bending Spoons with a request for more information but did not immediately hear back.
Bending Spoon doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to acquisitions and layoffs. The company has laid off employees at several companies it has purchased over the past few years, including WeTransfer, Filmic and Evernote.
