With the win, UNC improved to 6–0 this season, its best start since starting 7–0 in the 2016–17 NCAA Championship season. St. Bonaventure lost 5–1.
Carolina hit 21 of 27 free throws as a team, while outscoring SBU 40–31. UNC has won seven consecutive games by making 20 or more free throws.
The Tar Heels turned the ball over 11 times in the first half, allowing the Bonnies 10 points. In the second half, UNC committed only two turnovers, and none led to SBU points.
How did this happened
first half
• After falling behind 3-0 on a three-pointer in the opening minute, Carolina went on a 15-2 run to take a 15-5 lead and force a Bonnies timeout in the first four minutes.
• Both teams made good shots early with St. Bonaventure making 6 of 8 shots to tie the game 28-28 with 6:27 left in the first half.
• Vissar and Wilson were the best players on the court for most of the first half. Vissar had eight points and eight rebounds, and Wilson had nine points and five boards in the opening 20 minutes.
• UNC led by 11 points early (with 11:39 left in the half), but the Bonnies took advantage of a Tar Heel turnover and slowly clawed back later in the period to make it a close contest.
• UNC led 35-33 at the break.
Second quarter
• Carolina took the lead early in the second half and took its largest lead of 11 points to 54-43 just six minutes into the second period.
• SBU came out of the locker room cold on the field and missed 10 of its first 14 attempts.
• UNC used a 9-0 run to take a 58-43 lead after 7+ minutes in the half.
• The Bonnies cut the lead to at least 10 points midway through the second half before the Tar Heels used their size and depth to take a 69-52 lead with 7:54 to play.
