UNC vs. St. Bonaventure – Player of the Game: Henri Veesaar

For the first time since 2016, the North Carolina Tar Heels are starting the season 6–0.

Junior Henry Vissar was instrumental in last night’s win. In his expanded role as a starter for Carolina this season, the seven-foot player posted career highs in points and rebounds.

In the opening game of the Fort Myers Tip-Off, Vissar and Caleb Wilson were the best players on the court.

Vissar finished the first half with eight points and eight rebounds. For perspective, Vissar had only one game with more than eight rebounds in 37 games last season.

Last night was Vissar’s third career double-double with the Tar Heels this season.

Despite Weiser and Wilson leading in the first half, the Bonnies made a late half run to make it only a two-point game at the half.

Vissar scored the first two points for UNC in the second half and added 14 more points to lead all scorers in the game with 24 points. His 13 rebounds were the most among all players.

An impressive part of Vissar’s performance was the variety of his scoring methods. He had a few dunks and layups, a mid-range jumper, a jumpshot from the free-throw line and a three-pointer from the top of the key. Vissar was also five of six at the charity stripe.

On the defensive end, Weiser faced a tough challenge against 270-pound Frank Mitchell. Vissar held his own against Mitchell’s physicality, which was a good experience for an early season matchup.

Wilson gets a very honorable mention. The freshman sensation finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds. He is the first Carolina freshman to achieve four consecutive double-doubles.
