Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies have started searching the apartment of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff Andriy Yermak.
One of the two agencies, the anti-corruption bureau Nabu, confirmed that its investigative searches had been authorized and said further information would be provided.
A corruption scandal has engulfed several people close to Zelensky, although neither he nor his right-hand man Yermak have been accused of any wrongdoing.
Yermak has played a key role in Ukraine’s response to Russia’s full-scale war, and he is Kiev’s lead negotiator in peace talks with the US. However, his position is in danger with critics calling for him to step down.
Yermak confirmed on social media that both the Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) were “conducting procedural actions at my house” and that they had full access to his apartment along with their lawyers.
He said that he is fully cooperating.
