Two members of the National Guard were shot near the White House in Washington, DC, on Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on Twitter that she was praying for the two guards who were shot. The Metropolitan Police Department said a suspect was in custody.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump wrote that two Guardsmen “have been seriously injured.”
He said, “The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen…is also seriously injured, but regardless, it will pay a very high price.”

White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt said in an emailed statement that President Trump had been briefed on the incident.
“The White House is aware of this tragic situation and is actively monitoring it,” Leavitt said.
This is a developing story and will be updated soon.
