Trump calls Renee Nicole Good’s death a ‘tragedy’ after learning her parents were fans of the administration
The President, in a departure from much of his administration’s rhetoric, called the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Goode “a tragedy.”
Several Trump officials, including the President himself, have claimed – without any evidence – that Good was a “paid agitator” and part of a “radical leftist network”.
Today, in the White House briefing room, Trump called Goode’s death “a terrible thing” and “ICE would say the same thing.”
The president said he recently learned that Good’s parents – particularly her father – were “tremendous” fans of Trump.
“He was for Trump. Loved Trump and that’s terrible,” the president said. “A lot of people told me that. They said, ‘Oh, he loves you’… I hope he still feels that way.”
The S&P 500 fell 2.1% today, the first day of trading on Wall Street after Donald Trump threatened new tariffs on eight European countries in protest of their desire to buy or invade Greenland.

The Justice Department on Tuesday subpoenaed several top Minnesota officials as part of its investigation into whether Minneapolis officials conspired to hinder federal immigration efforts there.
A copy of the subpoena sent to the Minneapolis Mayor’s office, jacob freyThe request, obtained by the Guardian, seeks guidance and policies related to immigration enforcement in Minnesota from the past year. It also requests documents related to “obstructing, doxxing, identifying, or monitoring immigration officials,” as well as communications regarding those policies with other state agencies.
Office of the Governor of Minnesota, Tim WalzState Attorney General, keith ellisonHennepin County Lawyer, Mary Moriarty, and mayor of St. Paul, kaohli hisAll Democrats also received subpoenas, The New York Times reports.
“When the federal government uses its power to intimidate local leaders into doing their jobs, every American should be concerned. We should not live in a country where people fear that federal law enforcement will be used to play politics or suppress local voices with which they disagree,” Frey said in a statement. “In Minneapolis, we will not be afraid. We know the difference between right and wrong, and as mayor, I will continue to do the job I was elected to do: keeping our community safe and standing up for our values.”
The Justice Department is investigating the officers, claiming they conspired to obstruct federal immigration agents. Legal experts have described the claim as weak.
When a reporter asked Trump what would happen to tariffs imposed on allies if a Supreme Court decision finds that the use of duties without congressional approval is illegal (in response to their disapproval over his plan to annex Greenland), the President said he would do so. “Gotta use something else”.
He said: “I mean we have other options, but what we’re doing now is the best, strongest, fastest, easiest, least complicated.”

Asked about the threat his Greenland plan posed to the future of the NATO alliance, Trump said: “Something is going to happen that will be great for everyone.”
“We will do something that will make NATO very happy and we will be very happy. We need this for national security and global security,” he said.
When asked about Americans who are still feeling the impact of higher prices, the president chalked it up to reporting by “fake news.”
“Many groceries have become extremely low. It’s happening, and it’s happening strongly,” Trump said. He blamed Democrats for creating “the affordability problem” and that his administration is “solving it”.
According to recent data, inflation remains and Food costs rise 0.7% at end-2025.

Asked how far he would be willing to go to get Greenland, Trump kept his answer brief and said, “You’ll find out.”
Earlier, Trump had urged the Supreme Court to rule in favor of the president’s sweeping global tariffs. Judges are now deliberating over the legality of the administration’s duties on dozens of countries.
“We have a perfect system right now. We’re making a fortune. We’ve never been stronger and I hope the Supreme Court does the right thing for our country,” Trump said. “That would be very sad. We’re doing so well because of the tariffs.”
Trump teases settlement with Harvard over anti-Semitism lawsuit
Speaking at the White House today, Donald Trump said the administration is “working with Harvard right now”.
“We have a settlement, but who knows about them,” the president said of the ongoing anti-Semitism lawsuit with America’s oldest university. Last year, a judge restored billions of dollars in research funding to Harvard, a decision the Trump administration appealed.
A quick note, Donald Trump has been speaking for over an hour at this point. He has reiterated many of his points and made many baseless claims.
Earlier, the President had made the mathematically impossible claim that the administration had achieved “300, 400, 500 and even 600%” reductions in drug pricing with major drug companies. In this scenario, Americans would get paid for their prescription drugs.
“I hope our people know that we are not going to make sanctuary cities pay,” Trump reiterated that at the White House today. The President has regularly emphasized that he plans to eliminate funding to states that limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. However, his administration is blocked by a federal judge from withholding the funds.
Trump said those affected would likely sue the government as a result of his actions.
The President falsely claimed that crime in Washington DC has dropped to “nearly zero”.
A reminder that last year Donald Trump federalized the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and deployed National Guard troops to the nation’s capital.
According to MPD data, total crime in the district Only 17% reduction by the end of 2025Compared to last year. were still There were 2,476 violent crimes throughout 2025.

When it comes to economic policy, Trump said the US has “very low inflation” and that the administration has reduced inflation “to normal numbers now.” However, the most recent inflation data for December showed that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased to 2.7%. A reminder that when Joe Biden left office, the CPI rose to about 2.9% (after reaching a historic high of 9.1% in June 2022).
