‘Tron’ Just Can’t Stop Dying

Tron Haslab

Things were very promising on the grid. A new film, which had been in production for years, was about to arrive. A new roller coaster opened at Walt Disney World. Red light bicycles and data discs were arriving in stores. And Hasbro created an extremely detailed collector’s set for fans so they can get it. But then again, in the classic tron Fashion, it almost all derezzed.

Roller coasters will live forever, but the same can’t be said about that Hasbro set. After a little more than six weeks of availability, “tron:Heroes of the Grid” set failed to reach the minimum number of backers to go into production. It’s dead.

This may happen from time to time. tron The set was released as a “Haslab” project, a special section of Hasbro for more ambitious, expensive projects, which are only released if a certain number of people commit to purchasing them. Think Kickstarter for licensed toys. The company has done this with properties like transformers, star wars, gi joeAnd Ghost BustersAnd, most of the time, they are funded,

But sometimes they don’t do this. Like in the case of the Reva lightsaber Obi-Wan Kenobi, A detailed Ghost Rider Marvel set, a plush Cookie Monster, and a few more. But while most of those sets probably reached a quarter or halfway to their goal tron The set did not fail to reach its goal. It didn’t come close. The $260 set required 10,000 supporters and ended with less than 1,400. Which makes doing mathematics very easy. It only reached about 14% of its goal, which, we believe, makes it the least successful Haslab to date. Oh.

Why so? Well, for one thing, the set was very detailed and cool but it was lacking in some ways. Mainly, it didn’t take into account that fans liked the figures they could put on the back of their cards. You either have to place figures on their cards, which will leave you with a very boring display, or open them up and ruin super cool collectibles. Plus, most of the value in the otherwise simple display set was in the lighting features, which were much less exciting without opening up your super-limited stats.

And, finally, the big one. tron Just seems dead. It’s a second-generation franchise that people keep trying to revive with mixed success, but it just doesn’t seem to connect with anyone new. economic despair of Tron: Ares Proved it, and it put another nail in the coffin. Which is a shame. We really would have liked to see what happened next and pick up some toys for less than $260.
