It is understood that Sayer died in a bike accident in the Exuma district of the Bahamas.
Sear spent 24 years at Goldman Sachs. A former MD who worked with her there has described her as a “wonderful woman”. She left Goldman in 2022 and became head of international capital markets at the New York Stock Exchange. Sear was also the CEO and president of the Women in Financial Markets Group.
An NYSE spokesperson said: “We are shocked by the news that our colleague Cassandra Sayer passed away over the weekend. Following a distinguished career at Goldman Sachs, Cassandra joins us as Head of International Capital Markets in 2022. She was an integral part of our team, and an incredibly strong, vibrant member of our NYSE community. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time.”
Sayer posted on LinkedIn yesterday that she had gone to the WebSummit technology conference in Lisbon with Sumit Gupta, co-head of NYSE’s EMEA Capital Markets.
Sayer is survived by her young son and her husband, Thomas Sayer. “When I travel abroad, I call home twice a day,” she said last year.
It is believed that Sear was injured when her bike went out of control. Local news reports said he was airlifted to a hospital in New Providence, the largest island of the Bahamas.
