Of all the smart light brands we asked about in our survey, only two were selected for a Reader’s Choice Award: Philips Hue and TP-Link.

We asked readers to score their smart bulbs on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being best) on a number of factors, including bulb lifespan, routines and automation, and integration with smart assistants. Some survey respondents noted that they have multiple TP-Link lights in their homes and businesses. One wrote, “Our entire business is lit with Kasa plugs and light switches, so we can control via remote as well as Alexa. Really useful when you have your hands full, or when you’ve just gotten into bed and remember you forgot to turn off some lights. I can just tell Alexa to turn off all the lights, and it happens without even getting out of my bed.”
And another said, “I have a bunch of these bulbs throughout the interior and exterior of the house. The outdoor bulbs had issues, but after upgrading to the mesh router, I haven’t had any issues. I can turn them on and off for specific times, like sunset/sunrise, and they have the ability to change color. They integrate into my Google Home system without any issues.”
Compared to Philips Hue and other premium brands, TP-Link lights are more budget-friendly Four-Pack of Color-Changing Smart Bulbs Cost $26.99. Regarding cost, one reader said, “I’ve had another brand before and found them very disappointing. I’m glad to find these work as well as I like at a lower price.”
