Disney recently released the first teaser of toy story 5, And will Buzz, Woody and everyone else stand up against technology in the new movie?
Yep, in the series’ latest entry the toys now compete with 8-year-old Bonnie, who becomes obsessed with a frog-looking pill named Lilypad. Director Andrew Stanton said that Pixar is aiming to bring something more nuanced to our daily lives, rather than having a clash against technology as we typically see in movies. “We can’t just villainize technology and get away with it. This is about realizing there’s an existential problem,” he told Empire. “Nobody’s really playing with toys anymore.”
Stanton isn’t wrong, as there is an entire generation of kids for whom their “toy” is basically their phone, where they can do everything from watch TV to hanging out with their friends. Thus, the studio “can’t get away with just villainizing technology. Technology has changed everyone’s lives, but we’re asking what that means for us and our children,” as the director says. To help explore those themes, the film will also include a series of Buzz Lightyear toys called Multi-Buzz, who, after gaining consciousness, begin to question things and cause trouble for other toys.
Going by its trailer metrics, audiences certainly seem to be excited for it toy story 5 And its “toys meets technology” story. despite this toy story 4 Stanton initially seemed to indicate that the series could always exist due to its ability to “adapt to time and change” in a way that Pixar’s other franchises cannot.
,There’s no promise that it remains in amber,, he said. ,[Toy Story 3] It was the end of the Andy years, but no one was robbed of his trilogy. If they don’t want it they can have it and never see another one.”
toy story 5 Will be released in theaters on 19 June 2026.
