The Masellis Supermarket on the Danforth was transformed into a Hollywood-style set this week, with the addition of Patrick Dempsey filming at the long-standing, family-run Italian shop in Toronto.
Although there has been no confirmation on the project the crew was filming for, it is reasonable to assume that Dempsey was at the Masselis Supermarket shooting scenes for Fox’s upcoming television series Memory of a Killer, which is being filmed in Toronto and is scheduled to be completed in December 2025.
Dempsey, popular for his roles in classics like Grey’s Anatomy (2005), Maid of Honor (2008), Disenchanted (2022) and others, has been spotted around town since the summer.

Maselis Supermarket teased customers with a Facebook post on November 21, announcing, “Maselis Supermarket will be closed on Monday, November 24 due to an on-site filming shoot.” This was followed by a post on November 24 which mentioned the events of the day.
“We had an exciting morning on the Danforth when a film crew took over the store – and yes, Patrick Dempsey was here in the Masellis aisle!” reads the statement. It praises Dempsey’s “down-to-earth” personality and shares photos of production inside the supermarket.

Customers immediately filled the comments section with excitement that their beloved local shop had been graced by Dempsey himself. One user promoted Maselli to celebrity status, writing, “No way!!! How fun!!! And Mario is a star!”
However, Masselis is no stranger to television and local stardom, having appeared on CBC’s Family Feud Canada in 2021.
Masselis Supermarkets has served the local community for the past 66 years, and continues to be a trusted choice for meats, pantry staples, cheeses, fresh fruits and vegetables, and deli items.
Locals and fans of both Maselis and Dempsey are certainly excited to see the final product of Toronto’s own supermarket featured in the series.
