Police have launched a murder investigation after a 14-year-old boy was shot dead in Woolwich, south-east London. Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to reports of shots fired on Lord Warwick Street, Woolwich, at around 3.40pm on Thursday.

Two boys, aged 14 and 16, and an 18-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The force had previously said the victim was a male, but confirmed on Friday that he was a 14-year-old boy.

Detective Inspector Lucy Card said: “Our thoughts are with the boy’s family and loved ones.

“We are aware of the concerns that this incident will cause to the local community.

“We have already made three arrests and our investigation is continuing rapidly. There is an increased police presence in the area.”

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, who has CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident or has information that could assist my officers to come forward.”

The shooting took place on a residential street close to Woolwich Dockyard train station.
