Thomas Newman Is Scoring ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’

Shawn Levy was recently a guest on the podcast “On Film… with Kevin McCarthy,” and he revealed that 15-time Oscar-nominated composer Thomas Newman is recording his upcoming film. star wars film, Star,

Levy also said that the score would not include remixes of John Williams’ theme. Here is Levy’s full quote:

“Thomas Newman, you don’t understand. If you ask me about my favorite scores, five of the top 10 are by Thomas Newman. Shawshank ,redemption, path of destruction,Search, Nemo, American Beauty. The boy is a master. And I was thinking about this film and what I need its music to be. Because it kind of wants to be classically inspired but no, it won’t be a remix of Williams’ cues. It may have been inspired by some of that, but I knew I needed a big-hearted film score from a composer who, like John Williams, didn’t shy away from the themes.

In other words, every film must have a musical theme. John Williams believes that a film can have many themes. There was Leia’s theme, there was the Force theme. Imperial March. So there’s no shying away from the myriad musical signatures that help tell the narrative (along with the images on the screen). So, I called Tom Newman… You don’t understand, the way you reacted, I feel the same way. I said ‘Hey, this is Shawn Levy, would you ever consider…?’ He said, ‘Send me the script and tell me your vision.’ And I did both of those things and they said yes. And I’m so excited!”
