The vibration function adds another layer of relief, especially around the calves and hamstrings. It feels great after a workout and helps with delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) by reducing tenderness and limited range of motion, but I found the vibrations most useful beforehand for warming up my muscles and improving mobility.
As far as infrared LED therapy is concerned, this is where my doubts begin. I can’t say with confidence that it has significantly improved my recovery. Therabody hasn’t published any major details online, making it hard to evaluate its effectiveness beyond just the vibes. I reached out to Therabody for more information, and according to the company, the JetBoots Pro Plus provides infrared light at 850 nanometers, which is commonly used to reduce inflammation.
I also asked about radiation – basically how powerful the lights are – to which a representative from the company responded in an email: “Irradiation varies depending on treatment time to ensure the optimal dose of infrared light energy for your lower leg muscles. Our proprietary system uses treatment time to ensure each muscle is receiving 60-300 J (Joules) of energy.” These values come from a systematic review of how much energy is required to improve muscle performance and reduce muscle fatigue.
Personally, it just seems like a luxury add-on, but LED therapy is a common technology for athletes and people recovering from injury, so it makes sense to include it. If you plan on using it, you’ll want to be barefoot. Wearing pants, especially synthetic ones, block skin contact and can lead to an overall itchy feeling with compression and vibration functions.
The JetBoots Pro Plus is TSA-approved, which frequent travelers and athletes seeking consistent recovery will appreciate. Despite not being waterproof, they are very easy to maintain. The interior uses medical-grade materials designed to limit moisture and microbial growth, and after months of testing, I haven’t noticed any lingering odors. Cleaning is straightforward: Wipe the interior with a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol solution, wipe the exterior with a soft cloth, and let everything air dry.
They’re expensive, but if you want a sophisticated, three-in-one system, the JetBoots Pro Plus is the best on the market. Additionally, they are FSA/HSA eligible.
