Are you craving the colorful wobbling power of the glorious ’80s sci-fi sword-and-sorcery that dominated multiplexes and mom-and-pop video rental stores in the Reagan years? Well, your needs may soon be met, at least temporarily, when you will see unattainable action-oriented fun and energetic nature on display in the new one. “Lord of the Universe” (MOTU) Trailer.

Like the January teaser, fans get a glimpse of He-Man and his loyal sidekicks Teela (Camila Mendes), Duncan/Man-at-Arms (Idris Elba), Roboto (Kristen Wiig), Cringer/Battle Cat, and several other familiar Eternia residents. The series of “MOTU” characters includes Evil-Lyn (Alison Brie), the Sorceress (Morena Baccarin), King Randor (James Purefoy), Queen Marlena (Charlotte Riley), Trap Jaw (Sam C. Wilson), and Suzie (Sasheer Zamata).

Eternia is brilliantly rendered by the film’s visual effects crew in this full-length preview, with plenty of charm for “MOTU” geeks. It’s positively buzzing with spaceships, gleaming steel, lightning bolts, flowing lava, psychedelic forests and a solid sense of nostalgia, yet it’s treading less dense territory than its cinematic predecessor.

Even the Battle Cat in its intro cleverly replaces the MGM lion logo, so how can you not like it?! And we’re totally digging that synthwave rock score! The whole thing is just that… metal!

Adapted from Mattel’s popular 1980s toy series, “Masters of the Universe” revolves around the charismatic character of Prince Adam of Eternia, who transforms into He-Man, the invincible muscle-bound beefcake when he activates the mystical Sword of Power. Along with the toys, “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” has also starred in an iconic Saturday morning cartoon series and a 1987 live-action Hollywood film starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella.

Now, Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Studios have joined forces to deliver a 21st century iteration of He-Man, which is directed by Travis Knight (“Bumblebee”) and will be released in theaters on June 5, 2026.

In “Masters of the Universe,” Taylor Kitsch lookalike Nicholas Galitzine plays Earthbound Adam Glenn, aka Prince Adam/He-Man, who teleports to the planet Eternia to take back the royal throne of Castle Grayskull and try to save his world from Jared Leto (“Tron: Ares”)’s sinister arch-villain, Skeletor.

With a script written by Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee and Dave Callaham and executive produced by Yvonne Craze, Bill Bannerman and David Bloomfield, “Masters of the Universe” will hit theaters on June 5, 2026, to open this summer.

In the meantime, you can stream the original cartoon on Amazon Prime Video.
