The State Department is wiping out the post history of its npr. The publication reports that the State Department is removing all posts dating back to President Trump’s current term — a move that affects multiple accounts associated with the department, including posts from U.S. embassies and the Biden and Obama administrations. Posts from Trump’s first term will also be removed.
Unlike the way previous administrations have handled the removal of social media content and alteration of accounts, these posts will not be placed in a public archive. A State Department spokesperson confirmed this npr, and said the move is meant to “limit confusion over U.S. Government policy and speak with one voice to advance the goals and messaging of the President, the Secretary, and the Administration. It will preserve history while promoting the present.” The spokesperson also called the X accounts “one of our most powerful tools to advance America First goals.”
The Trump administration has been removing information from government websites since taking office last year. This week, the CIA unexpectedly took down its World Factbook, a global reference guide that has been available on the Internet since 1997.
