A surefire way to save on headphones this holiday season is to check out deals on older models.
As of December 22nd, there’s one thing worth checking out: a $152 discount on the Sony WH-1000XM5, which drops them down to just $248 at Amazon and Best Buy. Considering that most new flagship models are full price at $450 and up, this is an especially worthwhile deal.
I had a chance to test the Sony XM5 headphones directly against the XM6 headphones, and although I appreciated the return of folding ear cups to the XM6 headphones (from the XM4 models), I was also surprised by the minimal differences between the two. The noise-canceling capabilities aren’t all that different and although the sound quality was better in the new model, it was only a noticeable bump as I tested the headphones back-to-back on the same songs.

Mashable editor Timothy Beck Worth also noted in his XM6 review that between the XM5 and XM6 headphones, the changes were “more iterative than innovative”. The input, 30-hour battery life and connectivity support remain the same between generations.
