SAMSUNG

Galaxy Watch8 and Watch8 Classic

As the first watches to sport Google’s Wear OS 6, they caused a stir when they were released with bigger, bolder watch faces and an improved interface that shows more information. It has a 1.5-inch AMOLED screen that’s a larger size than even the 40-mm version we tested, and it’s bright enough to calibrate on a sunny day.

Both watches offer the kind of physical activity and health-tracking data you’d expect from a modern smartwatch, including steps, heart rate, and sleep quality, and bedtime guidance that recommends when you should go to bed if you can’t figure it out yourself. You can also use optical sensors to measure your antioxidant index to help you track what you’re eating without having to manually log food.

Battery life is an important factor for any smartwatch, and the smaller 40-mm didn’t impress us much, lasting about 20 hours, which is about half of Samsung’s claimed run time. The more expensive Watch8 Classic lasted a full two days, even with some tracked physical activity. If more than all-day battery is a major selling point, I would consider upgrading.

While I’m writing this only the Graphite and Silver models are in stock, with both the Bluetooth and LTE connected options being discounted for both the 40-mm and 44-mm sizes. You can also get a nice discount on the more deluxe Watch8 Classic, which I saw for $433 in black or $450 in white.
