‘The Running Man’ has an unexpected connection to Pennywise

If you are looking running man, Don’t expect to surpass the Stephen King universe.

There’s a small connection between the 2025 adaptation of Edgar Wright’s horror master’s 1982 novel and the expanded scope of King’s stories — and it has to do with itThis dangerous sewer-dweller is Pennywise the Clown.

In running manDesperate man Ben Richards (Glen Powell) is pursued by hunters across America’s eastern states for televised entertainment. From New York to Boston to Maine, Richards is pursued, and at this latter location he ends up in a familiar fictional town: Derry.

After encountering local people watching running man Together on an outdoor screen, Richards meets Alton Parkes (Michael Cera), a secret rebel and anarchist set on dismantling the almighty network. TruthHis home zine is full of exposes. We hear that Elton’s mother, unaware of her son’s guest, is worried about Richards running around somewhere, when she asks, “What if he’s in Derry?”

Derry, of course, is Stephen King’s fictional Maine town, based on the town of Bangor. Notably, Derry is also the haunt of Pennywise’s terror. itAs Mashable’s Sam Haysom points out, “[Bangor] This is the town where the horror master lived when he wrote his novel – a note at the end it King is said to have begun writing the book in Bangor in 1981 and finished it a little more than four years later. The author has also confirmed in interviews that Derry is essentially a fictional version of the town in Maine.”
