The ‘God of War’ trilogy is getting a remake

The remake is being made 15 years after the original God of War trilogy ended. Developer Santa Monica Studio announced the project during PlayStation’s State of Play showcase on Thursday.

Little has been revealed about the God of War remake other than its existence. However, it appears as if original voice actor Terrence C. Carson is returning for the game. Carson voiced the protagonist Kratos in the original God of War trilogy, and appeared during the announcement of the remake.

“This project is still in the early stages, so we’ll take a minute to get back to sharing another update,” Carson said. “But I’m telling you, I’m telling you, next time we come back, we’ll be back with something bigger, baby.”

Last year marked the 20th anniversary of the God of War franchise god of war First released in 2005 for PlayStation 2. The game was based on Kratos, a Spartan warrior who served the Greek Pantheon, as he embarked on a quest for revenge for killing the titular god Ares. The latter two games also put Kratos on a mission of revenge, turning his blade towards Zeus, king of the gods.

All three titles in the God of War trilogy were well received at the time of their release, being widely praised for their brutal, fluid combat. However, other aspects of the games have not aged as well, with women being treated as sexual objects that are put into minigames and then discarded. In an infamous incident in god of war iiiKratos used an enslaved, semi-naked woman as a literal object to solve a puzzle, causing her to scream as she was crushed to death.

It’s unclear at the moment how a God of War remake might tackle such issues, especially since the original games are renowned for their highly sexualized depictions of women. The series recently successfully reworked its approach in a soft reboot, which introduced a more mature, evolved and nuanced approach to both women and masculinity, as well as satisfyingly powerful combat. Still, 2018’s god of war and its follow up god of war ragnarok This had the advantage of being able to tell new stories rather than remake games that fans were already familiar with.

The remake wasn’t the only God of War news to come during Thursday’s State of Play, PlayStation also made a surprise announcement and released the new 2D action platformer. god of war sons of sparta.
