Disney’s plans for the future of its streaming service may include AI-generated videos. During an earnings call Thursday, Disney CEO Bob Iger said the company is “really excited about AI,” adding that the technology could allow Disney Plus to offer viewers the ability to “create” and “consume” short-form AI videos.
“There are unprecedented opportunities to deploy AI on our direct-to-consumer platform, both providing tools that make the platform more dynamic and more sticky with consumers, but also giving consumers the opportunity to build on our platform,” Iger said. They didn’t go into detail about how exactly this might work, but I’m just hoping that one day I won’t open Disney Plus and see a Sora-like stream of AI-generated clips.
Iger also noted that Disney Plus has “opportunities for commerce”, allowing it to serve as an “engagement engine” for people wanting to visit Disney’s parks, stay at its hotels, or go on its cruises.
