The Duffer Brothers made sure their art imitated their lives in the fifth and final season stranger things,
Series co-creator Ross Duffer revealed on Friday that he and his brother Matt Duffer have cast their high school drama teacher, Hope Hines Love, in the pivotal role of Hawkins Elementary School teacher Miss Harris in season 5.
“High school was hard for me and my brother,” Russ wrote in an emotional Instagram post. “But Hope saw something in us that we didn’t see in ourselves. And she helped give us the confidence to not only survive those four years, but to go to L.A. and chase our dreams.”
He further added, “Salute to all the teachers who are making a difference. And please…let’s make arts a priority in schools.”
Introduced in Season 5, Volume I of the hit science-fiction drama, Miss Harris is a schoolteacher who previously instructed every teen in Hawkins to fight the evil Vecna (Jamie Campbell-Bower).
(Warning: Spoilers for the upcoming Season 5!) Her current class is being targeted by Vecna, disguised as a kind-hearted imaginary friend, for plans that have not yet been revealed. He has appeared before several children, pretending to be their protector from demons, and plans to kidnap them all, starting with Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher).
When Will (Noah Schnapp) learns of Vecna’s nefarious plans, he and his friends attempt to get all the targeted children out of Hawkins to safety. That mission is complicated by the military quarantining the entire class, including Miss Harris, at a base in the center of Hawkins, resulting in an epic confrontation between Will and Vecna that ends on a cliffhanger.
