Prime Video releases an extended teaser for the fifth and final season boys– based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Derrick Robertson during CCXP in Sao Paulo, Brazil. And it looks like we’re getting nothing less than a full-on super-apocalypse as an all-powerful Homelander seeks revenge on The Boys.
(Spoilers for last season boys and S2’s Gen V Below.)
Things weren’t looking good for our anti-heroes after the S4 finale. They managed to thwart the assassination of newly elected US President Robert Singer, but new Vought CEO/evil supe Sister Sage (Susan Hayward) essentially overthrows the election and installs Senator Steve Calhoun (David Andrews) as president. Calhoun declares martial law, and naturally Homelander (Antony the “Give Him an Amy Already” star) swears loyalty as his chief enforcer. Butcher (Karl Urban) and Annie (Erin Moriarty) escape, but the rest of the boys are captured and placed in re-education—er, “freedom”—camps.
Second season of spinoff series Gen V Set after those events, and culminated with Annie recruiting the main cast to join the fight against Homelander and Supes. season 5 boys picks up where Gen V The finale is over. According to official basis:
In the fifth and final season, it is Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egotistical whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in “Freedom Camp”. Annie struggles to put up a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko was nowhere to be found. But when the Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets off a chain of events that will change the world and everyone in it forever. This is the climax, friends. A big event is about to happen.
Most of the main cast is returning for the final season (although RIP Claudia Doumit’s Victoria Newman), and we’ll also see the return of Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), aka Homelander’s dad, who is alive and resting in cryostorage in the S4 finale mid-credits scene. Showrunner Eric Kripke has said that he wanted to delve a little deeper into that father/son relationship, especially since Soldier Boy switched sides and formed an alliance with Supes after Butcher tried to kill him in S3.
