Accepted is a first-person, open-world RPG by Obsidian and is a spin-off of the studio’s Pillars of Eternity series, but it does not require any existing knowledge of that universe. You are the messenger of the powerful Edirne Empire and you have just arrived on the shores of the Living Lands, a lawless region occupied by outcasts, criminals, and refugees. You are a demigod, linked to a deity and marked by rainbow facial growths, and you are on a mission to uncover the source of the Dreamscourge, a rapidly spreading disease that turns people and animals into insane killing machines. At the same time, your godlike powers are developing in strange ways and a loud voice begins to burst into your thoughts. It also has an overarching story about the colonization game, a team of charming companions, lots of cool NPCs to collect and sidequests to accept.
This complex premise creates a tapestry of winding, interlocking narrative threads spanning politics, military strategy, religion, duty, science, faith, and identity across approximately 45 hours of playing time. Knowledge runs deep Accepted And each of its stories is handled with utmost care. The dialogue system provides ample opportunity to create a unique personality, and the choices you make in conversations carry over into the entire campaign. Upgrades, enhancements, skill trees and divine abilities are constantly considered, and you’re able to shape a custom play style as you progress. The combat feels great, and there are a variety of weapons, items, and spells to try out, as well as endless flashes to pick up during your travels.
Although Accepted Based on the world of the existing franchise and being another entry in the stacked genre of open-world fantasy RPGs, it feels like the start of something new. -Jessica Condit, Senior Reporter
