A new e-reader

When I got back into reading, I fell in love with e-books and got free copies from the library that I read on my Libby app. That year, on my birthday, I was gifted a Kindle from two different people, and I never looked back. Whether they’re a new reader looking for a better way to read or someone who is complaining about how heavy their books are, an e-reader is a great solution (and you can still get free library books on it!).

Kobo

bent color

If they have an e-reader but want the option to use color, the Kobo Libra Color is the best option. It lets them use a range of colors while reading, and you can add a stylus to turn it into a digital notebook. It has page-turner buttons, which are great and something you won’t find on the Kindle.

Kobo

clara color

This e-reader from Kobo costs the same as the Kindle Paperwhite, but it comes with a color screen. It’s 6 inches smaller than the base Kindle, and I like how light it is to hold. This is a great budget color e-reader if you don’t want the stylus and notebook feature of the Libra.

Amazon

Kindle Paperwhite (2024, 12th generation)

If they don’t have a Kindle, the 12th edition Paperwhite is our favorite. It has a warm front light and great battery life, and comes in a fun pink color. Upgrade to the Signature for auto-adjusting lights and more storage (aka more books!).

Amazon

Kindle Scribe (2024)

The Kindle Scribe 2 is a great e-reader and digital notebook. It’s larger than the Libra Color, making it easier to write and draw on, but the downside is that it doesn’t have a color screen. However, there is a colorful model coming this winter.

e-reader accessories

From beautiful cases to handy straps that make reading easier, there’s no shortage of fun options to add to your Kindle or other e-readers.

popsocket

PopCase Kindle and PopGrip

PopSocket has a new collection of Kindle cases that have a MagSafe ring, so you can easily pop them onto the PopSocket Grip. The Curled Up with a Good Book design comes with a matching case and grip that you can use together.

slipcover

This convenient case not only looks great, but the lines on the cover actually allow it to fold and support the Kobo while reading. very convenient! It comes in beautiful colors and is available for many Kobo devices, including Clara and Libra.

popsocket

Heart of Silver MagSafe PopGrip

This is my favorite PopGrip. It’s big enough that my little hands can comfortably reach it on the 7-inch Paperwhite and ColorSoft, and it’s nice to touch and look at.

strapsicle

e-reader hand strap

These straps from Strapsicle make it really easy to hold the e-reader. They are easy to attach, and I even find it safer to use one of the two straps. The limited-edition Neon collection is super fun and worth purchasing before it runs out.

Accessories for physical book readers

No e-reader? No problem. These book lights solve the book reader’s constant struggle: darkness getting in the way of their reading.

Vecchia

14 LED Book Light

Our favorite reading light is a super versatile clip-on with an adjustable gooseneck. The two rotating light bars each have seven LEDs.

glocusant

LED neck reading light

This lightweight neck light is a great option if your reader might hate having something clip onto the pages. It has three light warmth and six brightness settings.

book bag

If the book lover in your life is known for carrying their e-reader or book of choice everywhere, here are some fun accessories for them to carry around (and to record their thoughts while reading!).

hello cleo

original kindle belt bag

This cute belt bag isn’t much wider than usual, but it has a soft interior pocket made for carrying a Kindle Paperwhite or a base Kindle (the Kobo Clara will fit just as well).

New York Public Library

Library Card Tote Bag

This tote bag screams “I love books” in the best way possible. It’s a great shape, has nice long straps that make it super comfortable to wear.

stickers, journal and annotation tools

Whether they’re looking to decorate their e-reader or the pages of their books, there’s a fun add-on for every kind of reader.

strapsicle

sweet stickers

Strapsicle recently launched stickers with both sweet and spicy packs. This is a good-sized set that can easily fit multiple e-readers.

paper

reading journal

If they’re constantly trying a new read, give them a journal so they can track what they’ve read and how they liked it.

book tab

I don’t like primary colors when I comment on my books. This is a similar but much larger pack of book tabs that I found at my local Daiso, and as I mark the pages of my book, the pastel colors are more soothing on the eyes.

passion planner

passion highlighters

I love these highlighters for my paper planners, and they’re a great option for readers who like to highlight paragraphs. There is a highlighter and pen end for each color if they want to outline.

reading vibes

Gifts for your local book lover don’t just have to be giving books and book materials. Help get them in the mood while reading with these cozy gift ideas.

james wax

reading time candle

The label says it all. Give them a candle to alert everyone who is busy reading. I’ve tried all four of the scents you chose, and my favorites are the mimosa and white tea scents.

Sony

WH-1000XM6

Help block out the world while reading them with our favorite noise-canceling headphones (or take part in immersion reading, where you listen to audiobooks while reading the physical book at the same time).

east fork

Mug

Give them a beautiful mug to stay hydrated with their beverage of choice while they read, whether it’s a nice cup of tea or a hot toddy.

Beautiful by Drew Barrymore

electric kettle

They’ll need some hot water with that cup of tea, and this attractive electric kettle is both stylish and affordable without sacrificing performance.

ugg

Men’s Newman

Give the gift of happy, comfortable feet with our favorite set of men’s slippers. Our WIRED reviewer says these slippers hold up well and have a classic Ugg front, with a low back that makes them easy to take on and off.

Are you looking to give the gift of a true book? These box sets and illustrated editions are collectible.

Judy Blume Essentials (Box Set)

by Judy Blume

This is a great series of books if you are shopping for an elementary reader or teen. The books have endured, Bloom’s themes resonating years later.

book subscriptions

It can be difficult to buy a book for someone if you’re not sure what they like or what they’ve already read. But covering a few months of subscription is a gift that comes again and again.

If you know someone who lacks the time to sit down and read, get them an Audible subscription so they can listen to books while driving, working out, working out, and more.
