Jeep says production of the all-electric 2026 Jeep Recon will finally begin “early next year.” This comes three years after the model’s original announcement amid several delayed debuts.
Built on a dedicated EV architecture, the Recon will deliver 650 horsepower and 620 ft-lb of torque. Its 100kWh battery pack will have an estimated range of 250 miles on a full charge and will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds.
The Recon is billed as the first and only fully electric trail rated SUV in the industry. This means it meets Jeep’s internal standards for traction, water fording, maneuverability, articulation and ground clearance required to earn the Trail Rated badge. Empowered by its 4X4 capability and 33-inch tyres, the Recon can tackle a wide variety of terrains.
The Jeep Recon was originally scheduled to be available in 2024, though the closest we got to seeing it in action came in the form of a potential prototype later that year. Last month, Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf told That the Recon was coming to showrooms “next spring”. , which may need some updating, still says “coming in late 2025.”
Jeep has previously introduced several hybrid models, including hybrid versions of the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. The batteries of both models were at risk of fire this year, involving more than 375,000 vehicles. This came before 194,000 vehicles were sold for the Jeep Hybrid, also because of the fire risk.
The EV will have a starting MSRP of $65,000 and Jeep says it will be produced at the Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico.
