Experts from the anniversary team took over from the previous mission. The mandate of the International Atomic Energy Agency experts provides for constant monitoring of radiation safety, assessment of technical parameters of equipment operation and analysis of NPP activities under prolonged military risks.
The previous monitoring mission team carried out its work for three weeks. During the meeting, summarizing the work done, its leader noted constructive interaction with employees of the South Ukraine NPP. “On behalf of the 49th IAEA team, I would like to thank the Ukrainian side for their cooperation. The schedule of our walkdowns and meetings was very busy. And based on its results, we can confirm the safe operation of the equipment. Unfortunately, during our stay here, there were several air raid alerts, drone flights and power outages in the city. Thank you for maintaining the safe operation of the plant despite all these risks.” said the head of the IAEA team, who handed over his powers to his successors.
“The work of IAEA experts is vital. All recorded threats – information about any drone or missile flight – are immediately transmitted to the agency’s central office. Thus, the international community receives reliable information about the risks a nuclear facility may be exposed to.” Victor Savorona, Deputy Director General for Quality and Management at the subsidiary “SS SUNPP”, emphasized.
