Apparently, plant lover Shopping should be as easy as possible. Just get them a plant, right?
Wrong. (Well, most of the time.) I review indoor hydroponic gardens for WIRED and have been a proud plant guardian for nearly 30 years, so I can say that even if you have a mental list of all your recipient’s houseplants and you know which ones they don’t have yet, you still may not know what they have space for, or what type of substrate or pot they’ll want to use.
In general, the best gifts remind them of plants they have, or that will help care for them. However, let’s say you know without a doubt that your recipient will really love a plant. In that case, we’ve included some mail-order options from companies we’ve tried and recommend, including a lucky jade plant and a fruit tree that bears edible fruit.
