Tesla’s cheaper $60,000 Cybertruck is still a Cybertruck

Tesla has announced a new all-wheel drive Cybertruck, with prices starting at $59,990, making it the cheapest controversial truck ever sold — though still well above the $40,000 price tag that Elon Musk initially promised. This includes a $15,000 price cut on the high-end CyberBeast variant, as Tesla doubles down on its efforts to turn around slowing Cybertruck sales.

The new dual motor AWD variant is now available on Tesla’s site. It’s cheaper than the rear-wheel drive version that was launched last year and discontinued just a few months later, but includes features like a power tonneau cover, bed outlet and adaptive damping that weren’t seen in that model. The only downside is a slightly reduced range because of the second motor: 325 miles instead of 350.

At the same time, Tesla has reduced the price of the tri-motor Cyberbeast to $99,990. If this sounds familiar that’s because it’s back at this price for the third time. The cyberbeast launched at $99,990, then went up $20,000, then dropped back to the same level, then went up $15,000, and is now back at number one. I guess this means you should take it if you are tempted, as there is no telling when the price will go up again.

Then again, you can hope that Tesla will keep the Cybertruck as cheap as possible. One estimate sees sales falling 48 percent in 2025 to just over 20,000 trucks a year — just shy of Musk’s initial prediction that Tesla would sell 250,000 Cybertrucks a year.
