Vanderbilt (9-2, 5-2) beat Kentucky last week and can post a Top 20 road win this weekend to boost its CFP resume.
Here are the Knox News staff’s predictions for Tennessee-Vanderbilt:
Adam Sparks, UT beat reporter: Tennessee 34, Vanderbilt 31
This isn’t just an overachieving Vanderbilt team like in years past. But Tennessee knows this, so it needs to be ready to play. Diego Pavia will play well. But the Vols will play one last big game and get a much-needed boost from the Neyland Stadium crowd. This should be a classic to close out the regular season.
Mike Wilson, UT beat reporter: Tennessee 44, Vanderbilt 34
Tennessee is better than Vanderbilt this season. Neyland Stadium is a big factor, especially in big games like this – and Vanderbilt is a bigger game than usual.
Gentry Estes, Tennessean columnist: Tennessee 41, Vanderbilt 34
The Vols offense wants to throw it around and make plays in space. This has troubled Vandy’s defense this season, just as it has troubled Vandy every year against Tennessee since Josh Heupel’s arrival. Diego Pavia and the attack will do their part to keep the Commodores in the game, but in the shootout, I would pick the home team that has dominated this series recently.
