Tennessee football kicker to enter transfer portal

Tennessee football placekicker Max Gilbert is entering the transfer portal, they announced on Jan. 2.

“Wall Nation, what an honor it has been to play for the University of Tennessee for the past three seasons! It was always my dream to play for this incredible program. I will always love the people and the place,” Gilbert posted on X.

“After long and thoughtful conversations with my friends and family, I have decided to enter my name in the transfer portal.”

Gilbert has been an accurate kicker for the Vols, making all 118 PAT kicks and 34 of 45 field goals in two seasons. His 75.6% on field goals is third best in UT history for kickers who have made at least 25 field goals.

As a freshman in 2024, he was 20 out of 26. And as a second-year student in 2025, he was 14 out of 19.

But Gilbert missed clutch kicks in key moments, starting with a potential game-winner against Georgia in 2025.

The Memphis native has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
