Teenage girl killed after minibus crash in North Yorkshire | North Yorkshire

A teenage girl has been killed when the minibus she was traveling in collides with a car in North Yorkshire.

The accident happened just before 12.30pm when the minibus carrying the girl and eight other passengers aged 16 to 18 collided with a Hyundai i10 at a junction on Tolston Lane in Tadcaster, close to Tadcaster Grammar School.

Police said that the girl died on the spot. Another passenger, also a teenage girl, was taken to hospital with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Other passengers, including the person driving the minibus, suffered minor injuries.

Authorities have arrested the car driver, a 40-year-old woman, in connection with the investigation.

In a statement, police appealed for witnesses or motorists with dashcam footage to come forward and said Tolston Lane is closed to traffic as police inquiries continue.

“We are not in a position to identify the girl at this time,” the police statement said. “We are continuing to support his family and will issue further updates when it is appropriate to do so.

“We urge everyone to respect the family’s wish to mourn in private.”

Tadcaster Grammar School sent a message to parents warning it would be closed on Tuesday because the site “will not be safe for pupils”, the BBC reports.
