Svea Irving, 23, of Winter Park, finished eighth in the women’s freeski halfpipe Olympic qualifier on Feb. 19. She will advance to the finals on Saturday, February 21 at 11:30 am.
Only the highest scores were used to determine the rankings; Each contestant took two runs. Irving completed his first run with a score of 77.75, followed by his second run with a score of 80.75.
Great Britain, China and Canada took the top three positions in the qualifiers. Zoe Atkin of Great Britain stood first with a score of 91.50. Li Fangui of China got 90.00 marks in second place. Third place went to Canada’s Cassie Sharp, who scored 88.25 on her first run and was eliminated in the second run and was taken out of the halfpipe on a medical sled.
Winter Park Resort is planning an official watch party for the women’s freeski halfpipe final at Sundog Restaurant on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 11:30 a.m. According to resort officials, along with a live screening of the Olympics, the event will feature a giveaway to win IKON Pass merchandise.
