Was a man on crutches the key element in a bizarre carjacking that took place in the Laurel area of Anne Arundel County last Friday morning? The police are still trying to solve it.
Three carjacking suspects are being sought in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, according to police, one of whom asked a driver to stop by walking in front of his vehicle using crutches.
According to Anne Arundel County Police, the carjacking happened around 1:20 a.m. Friday in the 500 block of Brock Bridge Road near Laurel.
It’s a winding and dark two-lane road, and in that area, there is a small park and not much else – no houses or businesses that might attract anyone during the night hours.
A driver told police that someone using crutches tried to cross the road in front of his car, forcing him to stop. Then two other suspects – according to police, one “possibly armed with a firearm” – emerged from the woods.
Anne Arundel County Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said, “They demanded her vehicle, pushed on the window, told her to get out. Ultimately, they forced her out and dragged her out of the vehicle.”
Police said the group of three male suspects then left.
Investigators are reaching out to departments across the area to see if this fits a pattern in other carjackings. Police are appealing for anyone who may have information that could help the investigation at 410-222-4730.
