Super Bowl Tailgate Photo Essay: Bad Bunny, Big Tech, and the Big Game

From Jim Lockhart, Boston:

Did you travel to be here today?

Yes, we arrived early on Friday morning. Planes, trains and automobiles from Logan Airport.

And where are you staying?

InterContinental, right in San Fran, downtown.

Beautiful. I’m from San Francisco, born and raised, so I’m very proud of my hometown. Hope you are enjoying your stay.

Oh, you know what? He has done an incredible job. San Fran has been very accommodating. Everyone has been amazing. Friendly bartenders, waitresses, concierges, Uber people. Everyone is amazing, man. He has done a very good job. The city moved forward. We went to Alcatraz yesterday, and what an experience. We like it very much. The Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, all of them. It was a wonderful experience.

What are you most excited about?

I am excited to watch the game. I’m excited to win some money in Under.

I was just about to ask you. Yes, did you place any bets today?

Of course I did. I got bets on everything. Coin toss, Gatorade, everything. First pass, everything. I got a mortgage on it.

Did you make any market predictions?

That’s why you can’t bet on DraftKings here. This is a strange thing. So I had to place all my bets with the bookie. offline.

Do you have any thoughts about the possibility of ICE agents in the area?

No, I’m from Boston, you know? We like ICE. In my drinks and on the streets. let’s go. Let’s maintain those borders, close them.

And do you have any ideas for Bad Bunny?

I think it’s disgusting that a person who doesn’t speak English is playing in the Super Bowl. The largest sporting event in America. And there’s a guy singing who doesn’t speak English, and he also said he was going to leave America and never tour here again. My kids love him and his stuff. I don’t know him well enough to form an opinion, but if he wants to sing in Spanish and all that, I mean, come on.

Will you be watching the halftime show?

No, I’m going out.

Are you going to hang out?

I’m going to the beer line. In protest. I know it won’t matter, but, you know what?

Have you had a driverless car since you moved here?

We are trying to reach out to them, but they harass me. You know what I mean? It’s scary to me to see a car passing without anyone driving. But we took those scooters last night. So, last night we were the sons of anarchy on these scooters. It was very good. That was a lot of fun.

However, you have scooters in Boston, right?

We do I never took one. We left a bar yesterday – a Patriots bar, a party – and we took them back to our hotel.

If you get a chance to ride in a Waymo before you leave, I think it’s a fun experience for a tourist.
