Phoenix Suns guard Grayson Allen was ruled out of the game against the Los Angeles Lakers due to illness.
Allen, who is dealing with a quad contusion, initially did not appear on the team’s injury report — and now the Suns will suddenly be without a key player in their rotation.
Colin Gillespie is likely to get the start in place of Allen. Ryan Dunn will play tonight, dealing with a wrist injury.
Opening tip is scheduled for 8:00 PM MST.
More on Grayson Allen
Allen has seen a strong surge to start the 2025-26 season, shooting 46.2% from three-point land this season, while also showing the ability to slash to the rim when needed.
Allen, who missed more than two weeks of action due to injury, returned in Saturday’s loss to the Denver Nuggets, playing 26 minutes and recording 10 points, three assists and two steals.
This is not the first time he has been on the injury report due to the illness, as he dealt with the issue weeks ago against the Los Angeles Clippers but ultimately played.
He had missed seven games before Saturday.
“The last few days it’s been feeling like it’s OK, he’s making progress, but he’s not with us,” Suns coach Jordan Ott continued on Allen’s status.
“He had swelling. We don’t know how long it’s going to take. He’s still in a good place. We’re not practicing right now, there’s a lot of games where you don’t see him go up and down 5-on-5, but he did his thing today after shootaround. The goal is to get him out there as quickly as possible.
“When you have shootarounds it’s hard to really take reps away from guys who are playing in the game. We’re balancing it out and as he progresses, he can do more.”
Lakers no Suns bring big test
Before tonight, Lakers coach JJ Redick offered this when facing Phoenix for the first time this season:
“We’ve got an incredible challenge tomorrow with Phoenix,” he said Sunday.
“Those guys are playing great basketball. They’re coming off some losses to two of the best teams in the NBA (Oklahoma City and Denver). They play hard. They have an identity. It won’t be a big challenge.”
The Lakers are 15-4 to start the year while the Suns are 12-9.
