
During Sunday’s Grammy Awards, the filmmaker won an award for the 2024 documentary film, Music by John Williams. It won the “Best Music Film” award at the non-televised ceremony, marking his first win and nomination at a music-focused event. Spielberg, along with others such as George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy, both produced the documentary and spoke about their relationship with Williams in it.
In a statement, Spielberg thanked the Grammy voters, calling it “obviously deeply meaningful because it validates what I’ve known for 50 years: John Williams’ impact on culture and music is immeasurable and his artistry and legacy unmatched.” For those keeping track at home, Spielberg is the 21st EGOT recipient, joining Viola Davis and Elton John. He is also the oldest EGOT winner at age 79, and the third director to win the EGOT award, following John Gielgud in 1991 and Mike Nichols in 1991.
