Without three of the team’s four best players, Fox has been trusted to handle the slack and he has done so efficiently. The Spurs are currently 3-1 without star Victor Wembanyama, with Fox efficiently scoring at least 25 points in each game.
This highlights his true value to Spurs. Although he was brought in as a co-star at Wembley, he also had an insurance policy. After all, even the most durable stars miss time, and it’s up to the talent around them that can make or break a contender’s championship aspirations.

With Wembanyama out, Fox is averaging 26.5 points, 6.5 assists, 1.5 steals and shooting 42.3% from three. Stepping up his game without Wembanyama is exactly what Spurs need from him.
Of course, Wembanyama and Fox’s goal is to eventually have success playing alongside each other, and they have only appeared in 10 games together so far. Getting Vembanyama back and getting those two on the same page will go a long way in helping this team reach its full potential.

However, the big silver lining of Wembanyama missing a few weeks is that it gives Fox a chance to be the focal point of the offense. He clearly wants to balance being a scorer while also being a distributor who doesn’t disrupt the flow of the offense.
