Snowstorm to move through Minnesota Saturday; multiple inches possible in Twin Cities


The winter blizzard slowly moved across southern Minnesota Friday night. There is a possibility of it spreading across the state by Saturday.

A winter storm warning is in effect for much of southern Minnesota through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until Saturday for Renville, Sibley and Yellow Medicine. A similar advisory was set to take effect at midnight for western Minnesota counties and the metro.

WCCO has issued the next weather alert, which will remain in effect until Saturday.

The snow began Friday night in southwestern Minnesota and will spread into southern and eastern Minnesota on Saturday. Areas along I-90 could see 6 to 10 inches, Redwood Falls and Red Wing could see between 3 to 5 inches, and Faribault could see 4 to 6 inches.

There is a possibility of 3 to 4 inches of rain in Twin Cities and 2 to 4 inches of rain in North Metro.

Behind the storm comes intense cold air. High temperatures on Saturday will be in the mid 20s with wind chills in the teens.

On Sunday, high temperatures will be in the teens and wind chills will remain in the single digits.

High temperatures next week will be in the teens and 20s, with another chance for snow at the end of the work week.
